Drains allow the automatic water discharge from the main pipe in the Pivot irrigation system when the working pressure is cut (when the machine stops), to prevent frost damage.
Remote drain
Drain valves are located at the lowest points on the span pipe, at the height of the towers, draining some water onto the wheel track.
To avoid wheel ruts problems, a hose connected to a fitting (fixed to the truss rod) can be used to discharge the water 2 or 3 meters away.
Maintenance tasks
Drains should be checked from time to time, to assure they are not clogged.
